Bringing Reality into the Room: A Call for Short Videos from Water and Sanitation Implementers

NewsAchieving the Global Goal on Adaptation

The Partners of the Water for Climate Pavilion are launching a call for submissions of short video clips from practitioners implementing water and sanitation programs on the ground, which contribute to climate adaptation objectives.

Sanitation and Water for All

Water Aid

The initiative aims to bring the reality of implementation into the global climate negotiation space, helping to bridge the persistent gap between high-level adaptation frameworks and on-the-ground practice. This can help inform review processes of climate commitments, including the upcoming Global Stocktake. The video series will initially be used during the Climate June Conference in Bonn (SB64) side event as an interactive element to ground discussions, but also as a reusable asset throughout the year in other key global moments such as Climate Weeks, the Adaptation Expo, COP31, the UN Water Conference, and related processes. In this way, the initiative will create a continuous feedback loop between implementation and policy, amplifying practitioner voices and contributing to more coherent, inclusive, and effective climate adaptation efforts in water and sanitation.

Suggested content and technical criteria for the videos

Content of the videos

This video initiative aims to elevate and strengthen experience-based perspectives in global policy discussions by providing insights into what “climate-resilient water and sanitation” means in practice. For conveying this perspective in the most targeted and relevant way to the climate negotiations, it is recommended that the videos refrain from showcasing specific project descriptions, but instead focus on providing answers to one or several of the following points:

  • Describe how you are integrating water and sanitation with climate resilience in your context, including through planning and implementation of international climate agreements or national climate commitments.
  • Describe what concepts, including climate-resilient water supply, climate-resilient sanitation, adaptive water management, or ecosystem-based approaches, mean in your context (Note: equally useful would be to highlight if these concepts are unfamiliar or difficult to understand and apply in your context). Describe how the concepts are understood (or not understood), interpreted and operationalized. If applicable, describe how these new concepts impact existing water and sanitation project approaches.
  • Describe, if relevant, what challenges there may be in translating climate commitments or the abovementioned concepts into concrete actions. Critical reflections are welcome, as they can help identify how to improve the applicability of global decisions.
  • Reflect, if relevant, on systemic issues you directly experience in project implementation This may include awareness or engagement in National Adaptation Plans, and the effectiveness of interaction with water and sanitation sector institutions and/ or climate-related ministries or authorities, or other factors.

Technical requirements

  • The length of the videos should be a maximum of 3 minutes.
  • The videos could be recorded in English. Videos in other languages are welcome if they are edited to include subtitles.
  • The videos can be recorded with a smartphone or camera. Please use the landscape format and ensure you are audible, preferably by using a microphone or headphone microphone if available.
  • The videos should preferably be uploaded to Google Drive here. As a second option, videos could also be sent via WhatsApp to Jose Gesti at +34684189675 / Tove Lexen at +46701131131 or by email to gesti@sanitationandwaterforall.org / tove.lexen@wateraid.se
  • The deadline for submission is 31 May 2026.

A key objective of this initiative is to help surface the disconnects, ambiguities, and opportunities that exist at the interface between global ambition and local implementation. By capturing these voices, the videos aim to inform policymakers and negotiators about the practical realities of delivering climate-resilient services, enhancing adaptive water management, including transboundary, and what water resilience means for ecosystems, highlighting where guidance, capacity, financing, or coordination mechanisms may still be insufficient or unclear.

This initiative aims to help ensure that global frameworks, indicators, and commitments are better aligned with operational realities and ultimately more actionable. Your contribution is valuable for bringing real progress to global climate decisions!
