Youth in Water Governance: A Multistakeholder and Intergenerational Dialogue for Water and Climate Action

As climate impacts intensify, effective and inclusive water governance is essential for building resilience and accelerating progress on global water–climate goals. This session brings together youth leaders, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners for an intergenerational and multistakeholder dialogue on strengthening water governance systems for climate action. The discussion will explore how youth can move from participation to influence, and how shared governance approaches can drive transformation ahead of the UN Water Conference 2026

Water governance sits at the intersection of climate, development, and equity. However, governance systems often lack inclusivity, coherence, and accountability, particularly when it comes to integrating youth perspectives. As the next generation of decision-makers, young professionals are uniquely positioned to contribute to adaptive, transparent, and cross-sectoral water governance frameworks.

At COP30, this dialogue provides an opportunity to bridge generations and sectors, highlighting the role of youth-led innovation and collaborative policymaking in strengthening water governance for climate resilience. It also contributes to momentum toward the UN Water Conference 2026, where governance reform will be central to achieving SDG 6 and SDG 13.
