Youth in Water Governance: A Multistakeholder and Intergenerational Dialogue for Water and Climate Action

Achieving the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) depends on our ability to transform multilateral commitments into concrete resilience strategies on the ground. Water lies at the core of this agenda: it links water security, energy security, food production, ecosystem conservation, economic development, and the protection of vulnerable populations

With climate change intensifying water scarcity and disrupting agricultural productivity, ensuring that food systems can withstand water-related stresses is essential. This session aims to explore why water-food linkages are key to promoting both climate mitigation and adaptation, and how strengthened mainstreaming of water-food linkages in climate policies promotes achieving global climate resilience, the goals of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The panel will present Brazil’s National Program for Indigenous Water, Sanitation and Waste Management (PNSI), an intersectoral government initiative that aims to ensure universal access to safe water, adequate sanitation, and waste management services in Indigenous territories. The discussion will highlight Brazil’s integrated approach to combining infrastructure development, environmental protection, and Indigenous participation in governance, highlighting experiences and solutions that contribute to climate resilience, health promotion, and the protection of Indigenous rights.
