November 20, 10:30 - 12:00
Urban water insecurity is a critical problem in Cameroon, specifically in poor neighborhoods where residents tussle to get safe, consistent, and affordable water. This shortage and poor water quality are made worse by fast urbanization, abandoned infrastructure, and climate change effects like irregular rains and droughts. The heaviest impact falls on women, girls, and vulnerable groups, who must often walk long distances or use unsafe water sources.
The goal of the “Water Equity and Access in Low-Income Neighborhoods in Urban Cameroon” initiative is to convey these urgent issues to the front at COP30. This hybrid event will use a human-centered, justice-focused method to argue climate-resilient water solutions. The event will explore innovative, community-led ways to guarantee water equity by empowering women and embracing sustainable technologies.
