Panel discussionUrban Water Resilience and Local Climate Action

Reaching the most vulnerable: locally led action on water-related disaster risk, preparedness and response

This session will examine how local governments, utilities and communities can reduce vulnerability before disasters occur and strengthen preparedness and response when they do, ensuring that the most exposed populations are not left outside formal planning and service systems.

Floods, droughts, storms and water-quality emergencies are among the most immediate ways in which communities experience climate change.

These impacts fall hardest on low-income communities in slums and informal settlements, where insecure tenure, hazard-prone locations and inadequate water and sanitation services compound exposure, and where people are often left outside formal early-warning, planning and recovery systems.
