TIME & PLACE

A few months after the United Nations Water Conference from March 2023, COP28 is a first important milestone for the further integration of water into climate discussions, actions and finances. This event will focus on the global water crisis, growing under the impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, and worsening due to lack of appropriate water governance at all levels. During the high-level segment on December 1, the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and the President of the Kazakh Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokaïev announced the organization a “One Water Summit” on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024.

To further present the initiative, France and Kazakhstan will host an event chaired by Mr Christophe Béchu, French Minister for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, and Ms Zulfiya Suleimenova, Advisor to the President – Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on International Environmental Cooperation.

The event aims to gather different leaders on water, from countries, UN organisations, financial institutions, civil society and private sector, to mobilise and pursue international discussions on solutions to address water-related challenges and water finance, in the perspective of the future One Planet Summit on water.
