Neighborhood for the collective action on Cities, Water and Infrastructure

Inauguration of ‘Neighborhood for the collective action on Cities, Water and Infrastructure’

COP30 in Belém marks a historic first: a UN Climate Conference hosted in the Amazon, a region where climate impacts and solutions converge. In response to the Brazilian Presidency’s call for a global mutirão, a collective effort to accelerate climate action, the Neighbourhood of the Mutirão for Cities, Water and Infrastructure comes to life.

TIME & PLACE

November 10, 16:00 - 17:00 | Neighborhood for the collective action on Cities, Water and Infrastructure

This inaugural event will formally launch the Neighbourhood, a 400sqm space composed of 4 pavilions, celebrating its vision and setting the tone for the two weeks of events that will take place in the space during COP30. This event will bring together high-level representatives aligned with the COP30 Presidency Agenda, especially Axis 4: Cities, Infrastructure and Water. By placing people and territories at the center of climate discussions, the neighbourhood aims to generate lasting impacts before, during, and after COP30. Key expected outcomes include:

  • Greater recognition of the urban agenda as central to climate action within COP30 discussions and outcomes.
  • Strengthen water security, sound water management and water risk reduction as climate solutions within UNFCCC dialogues as well as contribute to advancing the operationalization of water-related COP Presidency initiatives and cooperative ventures
  • Greater integration of disaster-resilient infrastructure into national adaptation strategies, along with positioning resilient infrastructure as an investment priority, can unlock the ‘resilience dividend’ and drive adaptation finance.
  • Greater integration of the buildings and cooling sectors’ pivotal role in climate action.
  • Stronger visibility and voice for cities and regions as climate actors, working in alignment with national governments and global frameworks.
